Fertility Preservation

If you’re transgender or non-binary and thinking about parenthood, fertility preservation is a powerful first step.

  • Trans Women (AMAB): You may choose to freeze sperm before starting hormone therapy or transitioning surgically.
  • Trans Men (AFAB): Egg freezing or embryo creation (with donor sperm) may be options before testosterone therapy.
  • Non-Binary People: Options depend on your assigned sex at birth and any gender-affirming care, but the right specialist can help you plan ahead.

We recommend consulting with an LGBTQ+ affirming fertility clinic. CoFertility is one example of a platform supporting egg donation and preservation for queer families.

Assisted Reproductive Technologies

We help demystify the processes behind LGBTQ+ family building, so you can explore what feels right for you.

  • IUI (Intrauterine Insemination): A popular, less-invasive starting point for many lesbian couples or single parents using donor sperm.
  • IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation): A more involved option, ideal for those who want more control over the process or face fertility challenges.
  • Reciprocal IVF (ROPA): Perfect for lesbian couples who want to share the experience—one partner provides the egg, the other carries the pregnancy.
  • Donor Sperm or Eggs: Available via licensed UK clinics, with legal clarity and future disclosure options.

We work closely with professionals and clinics who offer inclusive, respectful treatment tailored to LGBTQ+ needs.

Surrogacy & Egg Donation

Surrogacy in the UK is legal, but the law still reflects outdated assumptions around family and parenthood. Pride Parenting helps you navigate these complexities confidently.

  • Gestational Surrogacy: One parent provides the sperm; an egg donor is used; the surrogate carries the baby.
  • Parental Orders: In the UK, the surrogate is the legal mother at birth. Intended parents must apply for a Parental Order post-birth to secure legal rights.
  • LGBTQ+ Matching & Support: We partner with UK-based specialists and global organisations like Men Having Babies and GWK Academy to ensure safe, ethical matches.

💡 Note: You can’t pay a surrogate beyond expenses, and contracts are not enforceable under UK law—so professional legal guidance is crucial.

Adoption & Fostering

Adoption and fostering remain incredible routes to parenthood, especially for LGBTQ+ individuals and couples.

LGBTQ+ adopters are welcomed across the UK. Local authorities and agencies increasingly recognise the stability and care LGBTQ+ families offer.

Pride Parenting helps you navigate the process with confidence—connecting you to supportive agencies and peer communities who’ve walked the same road.

Legal & Emotional Support

Family-building for LGBTQ+ people often comes with legal grey areas and emotional weight. That’s why we prioritise clear, compassionate guidance across every step.

  • Legal Rights: Whether it’s donor agreements, parental orders, or birth certificate recognition—we help ensure you understand your rights and secure your family’s future.
  • Emotional Wellbeing: From therapy referrals to community support groups, we recognise the emotional highs and lows of the fertility journey.
  • Advocacy: We actively support policy reform to better reflect modern families in UK law.

LGBTQ+ Gestational Carrier

An LGBTQ gestational carrier is a person, usually female, who carries a pregnancy for a same-sex male couple or other LGBTQ+ individuals who are unable to carry a pregnancy themselves. In this form of gestational surrogacy, embryos are created using in vitro fertilization (IVF) with donor eggs and sperm from one or both male partners, and then transferred into the carrier’s uterus. The carrier is not genetically related to the child, serving as a temporary vessel to bring the baby to term for the intended parents.

For LGBTQ+ individuals and couples, particularly male couples, a gestational carrier is a woman who carries a pregnancy to term but is not genetically related to the child. In gestational surrogacy, embryos are created using the intended parents’ sperm and an egg from an egg donor (or the intended mother, if applicable) via in-vitro fertilization (IVF). These embryos are then transferred into the gestational carrier’s uterus, who then carries and gives birth to the baby for the intended parents.

LGBTQ+ Pet Parenting

LGBTQ pet parenting involves LGBTQ individuals or couples considering their pets as integral family members, providing crucial emotional support, a sense of purpose, and companionship, especially in the face of societal stressors like discrimination. Pets are often central to the concept of “chosen family” within the community, offering unconditional love and a stable, non-judgmental bond that helps combat loneliness and supports mental well-being.

“LGBTQ fur babies” refers to the beloved pets of LGBTQ+ individuals, who often consider their animals family members and sources of support, companionship, and unconditional love. This strong bond highlights how pets can foster a sense of belonging and well-being for LGBTQ+ people, who may face discrimination or rejection from human family members. The term reflects the deep affection and central role pets play in the lives of many queer individuals and families

Pet parenting refers to the modern approach of viewing companion animals as integral family members, involving an emotional and financial investment in their well-being, similar to raising a child. It encompasses nurturing their emotional and physical needs, establishing a deep bond through positive interactions, and ensuring they live a healthy and fulfilling life. This concept has gained prominence with younger generations, particularly Millennials, who treat pets as family members and use parent-child terms to describe their relationship with their animals.

Our Vision of Pride Parenting

Parenting, with Pride, means raising children in environments full of love, openness, and acceptance. It means:

  • Validating your child’s identity—wherever they are in their journey.
  • Championing inclusivity and challenging outdated norms.
  • Creating joyful, safe spaces that reflect real, beautiful, diverse family life.

We believe LGBTQ+ parents don’t just build families—they build change.
